Lord Leverhulme purchased various vehicles for use on Lewis and Harris and we have some records of them here, along with some interesting historical records concerning the day-to-day matters of running them. The colour of the vehicles was a uniform "Lemon Chrome" with black trim - have a look at these letters which show that some of the chauffeurs were the ones doing the repainting - Lord Leverhulme went to great lengths to ensure that all vehicles were the same colour, even requesting samples of the paint. A Darracq C44 was purchased from Lord Dunmore (Borve) for £200 in 1921 for Lord Leverhulmes' personal use - LB 3227 (a north west London registered vehicle). Road tax was required annually just as now, here is the accountant checking what vehicles they need to tax.... A Ford (registration JS 1106) was damaged during a gale in Harris on 19th December 1921 and required significant repair although the insurance company doesn't appear to have wanted to send anyone up to examine it but simply authorised the repairs. Here some of the arrangements regarding disposal of the vehicles. There seems to have been a slight delay in arranging for disposal of the vehicles - see the correspondence here for the explanation. Below we have a table listing Lord Leverhulmes' vehicles:
