Grounds Redevelopment Project

Thanks to the funding support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, and Historic Environment Scotland a major redevelopment of the Grounds was undertaken between 2015 and 2023.

This funding enabled the Estate’s Private Gardens and historic buildings to be brought back to their original glory and includes the renovation of the A-listed crenelated Seawall, The Boatman’s House, the Castles Bastion Wall and The Porter’s Lodge.  As well as an extensive planting scheme of exotic and traditional trees and shrubs, renovated pathways, traditional features rebuilt, and lawns re-laid.

Due to this project this wonderful and unique landscape has been saved for future generations.

The Castle Grounds has held the Green Flag award since 2022.  The Award recognises well managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of recreational outdoor spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
